Since the early 1990s, almost 3 decades I have helped individuals and business create programs and strategies designed to meet both their short and long-term financial goals. You and I are a team. I flourish during difficult times, helping to remove emotion from logic. Every single client deserves a well written financial strategy that includes goals for today as well as tomorrow. As a long-term financial professional I welcome the challenge.
I start by clarifying how different advisors are paid. I educate you so you always get what you pay for. We then analyze and construct your personalized financial plan and look at the ways that can help you the most. I study your individual needs and goals and see how well they align within your current strategy. After a proper stress test (meaning I look at many obsticles we are almost certain to encounter), then I will recommend a financial strategy designed to meet your time frame, income needs and risk tolerance.
Our team is comprised of a multitude of different people and research teams (over 30) with diverse backgrounds and differing strategies and investment styles with extensive financial expertise. Which is so very important. We are registered investment advisors, there are no worries about dealing with a broker verses a registered investment advisor. This area is essential, not to be overlooked. We work closely with your other local group of advisors. Since I am native to this area, I am familier with so many. We all have this in common--a commitment to ethics, honesty and integrity. We are all fully licensed and credentialed. You can count on unbiased recommendations, an unparalleled honesty as well as impartial guidance .
Matt began his financial career in 1992 in Evansville, IN immediately following college. Shortly thereafter, he decided to relocate his practice closer to home and to his family, which has always been a primary focus. He enjoys time with his wife Amy, his 3 grown children (Cailey, Nick and Branson) and his granddaughter (Mila) and his never ending passionate list of hobbies. He is an avid motorcyclist, car lover and thoroughly enjoys his outdoor time. Cooking is an obsession, as well as eating. He is a voracious reader always moving from financial news to fiction (yes, Stephen King is his favorite author). He is always in search of something educational, or new that delivers a fresh take and perspective. He is conveniently located between Bedford and Bloomington.
A Registered Investment Advisor is a fiduciary. A fiduciary is a legal standard adopted by a relatively small but growing segment of financial advisors. They have abandoned their big-box firms, relinquished their broker status and made the decision to become an RIA. RIAs get paid for financial advice and must remove any potential conflicts of interest(or disclose them to clients) and put the client’s best interest above their own. Brokerage firms, banks and credit unions only have to invest in what is “suitable” for clients even if it is not in their best interest. Before you make a decision about where to get your advice, it’s a good idea to understand your options, as well as the source of the advice. In many cases, you have a choice between an RIA or a broker.
VIMA RIA is an individual who has completed the qualifications to be registered with the SEC. An RIA works with clients to help them manage their assets. In addition to creating financial plans to improve the client’s wealth and diversification, an RIA can also make trades on your behalf. An RIA is required by law to act as a fiduciary to clients. As a result, the client’s best interest is the most important consideration when making recommendations. VIMA provides advice on client 401k plan accounts, brokers are not allowed to provide this service.
A broker is an individual who facilitates investment transactions. In most cases, a broker receives compensation through commissions. You must be aware that a broker isn’t required to meet fiduciary standards, they do not have to act in their clients best interest. Brokers are able to recommend investments that give them the bigger commission, even if there is a product that is more fee friendly. The SEC does not require brokers to make investments based on the best interest of the client.
Brokers have begun to use the title of “Wealth Manager”, “Investment Advisor” or “Financial Advisor” without accepting the fiduciary duty, acting within your clients best interest, of a RIA. It is common to find that the “suitable” investments at large brokerage firms are the house products that pay the highest commissions to the broker and the firm. This compensation system can lead a broker to give you a biased investment advice towards riskier investments because they pay the highest commission, while safe(fixed) investments have lower compensation. It is in your best interest for a broker to recommend no-load investments although they won’t make a commission from the sale so it is avoided.
Albert Einstein once stated “The most powerful force in the universe is compound interest,” which he believed was truly the “Eighth Wonder of the World.” By reducing fees and taxes, the client retains their own money for future investments.
VIMA is a fee-only investment advisor.

VIMA charges investment management fees as a percentage of client assets under management, so my financial success is closely tied to the growth of our client assets.
